I've been looking at convertibles as I've heard that winter is a good time to buy. I have a budget of around £10k and am torn between an MX-5, a Smart Roadster and old Mercedes SLK. Will the SLK be prone to lots of problems due to age and mileage? Which do you recommend?

Wow Ian, you have divergent taste. You won’t see those three in a group test anytime soon.
Arguably the most fun will be had in the MX-5. Otherwise, I would go with the Mercedes. It should only have done 70,000 miles for that kind of money and big technical problems should be 20,000 miles or more away.
Unlike the other two, it has done most of its depreciation. So even if you do get a bill, that saving will offset it.
