IT'S been a while getting here but April will see the launch of the 508, Peugeot’s answer to the Ford Mondeo and Vauxhall Insignia.
Insiders say the new model, which will be available as saloon and estate, is hugely impressive and they have high hopes for it.
There will be a new diesel with stop/start which will only be available with a six-speed electronically controlled manual gearbox.
This e-HDi 1.6 unit, with 112bhp, is claimed to reduce fuel consumption by 15 per cent in urban driving, and emits just 109g/km of carbon dioxide (CO2).
It takes economy up to an average of 64 miles per gallon in the saloon and 62 in the estate.
Other engines available are 1.6 petrols with either 120 or 156bhp, and a 2.0-litre diesel with 140, 163 or 200bhp.
Prices for the saloon will range from £18,150 to £28,750 for the top 200bhp HDi auto.
Interior
Peugeot claims a modern interior design that is both practical and comfortable and will appeal to a wide range of customers.
There will be five levels of trim: Access, SR, Active, Allure and GT and more details of what kit these will bring will be available nearer to launch.
