Question

Hi there,
I am considering a second hand Honda S2000. There are plenty of RHD imports around, with thousands to be saved from the UK cars. What are the disadvantages (if any) of a Japanese import?

Answer

Andrew,

When a car develops a mysterious fault it is very frustrating. When a Japanese import develops a problem, even the most worldly mechanics can be reduced to tears.

The problem is usually the electronics are different and UK equipment cannot diagnose it. In theory though, S2000s can be tuned to UK specifications.

So if you buy an import you need to ensure that it has had the ECU re-programmed to UK specification, the radio been changed so it can pick up UK frequencies, the fog lights have been adjusted and the car has been tested and approved to UK standards.
