THE E-Type is back – and it should prove a true competitor for the likes of Porsche and Audi.

Jaguar unveiled the C-X16 as a concept and it looks to be a real pointer to the company’s next smaller model.

Made from lightweight aluminium, the rear wheel drive two seater is claimed to have true sporting character and perfect 50/50 front to rear weight distribution.

Power in the pretty much production-ready concept comes from a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 with a stonking 380bhp.

And it also boasts a hybrid system which gives an extra boost of 95bhp when needed - at the touch of a steering wheel button.

How do these figures grab you? From zero to 60 miles an hour in 4.4 seconds and from 50 to 75 miles an hour in just 2.1 seconds.

It can even travel at up to 30 miles an hour on electric power alone and has emissions of just 165 grams per kilometre.

Interior

It is even smaller than the iconic E-Type from the 1960s and is the smallest car the company has built since the XK120 of 1954.

Expect every mod-con inside, with leather and wood all around. Nobody does interiors like Jaguar and this one is going to be just as special as all the rest.
