Question

I have a Mitsubishi Space wagon on a W plate. My recent MOT had problems passing the emissions. An expert from the garage said there is a call back on these cars for this problem but when I contacted Mitsubishi they were un aware of this problem. I also have fuel smells in the cabin and it now cuts out when I start the engine. I have to keep the revs up to keep the car moving which means using both pedals at the same time (automatic). Are you aware of these problems and if there is a call back could you give me more ammo to get Mitsubishi to sort it out?

Answer

Hi

On this car, if it misfires, runs out of energy, or is unresponsive during acceleration, the throttle body has usually become clogged up. The engine may need replacing or cleaning through 'carbon blasting'. If the engine is less than 6 years old Mitsubishi may replace it; contact a dealer. On older engines you can have them carbon-blasted for £700.

The fuel leak could be many things, but there was a recall because the “fuel tank upper panel may suffer from fatigue failure.”
