A CLUE about how the next generation of Ford’s Kuga SUV may look will be going on show in Europe for the first time when the Vertrek concept vehicle is revealed at next month’s Geneva Motor Show.

The Vertrek was first seen at the Detroit Motor Show in January and is based on Ford’s new global platform the company is also using for the new Focus and the latest C-MAX and Grand C-MAX multi-activity vehicles.

The design of the Vertrek hints at a blend between Ford’s current S-MAX seven seater and the four-wheel-drive Kuga.

Ford will also be giving its new pick-up truck – the Ranger Wildtrack – its world debut at Geneva as well as displaying an electric version of the Focus and a restyled version of the Ka, called the Ka Metal.

The Wildtrack is due on sale in Britain before the end of the year, while the Ka Metal will be arriving in April.

Details of the new Ka are being kept under wraps at the moment but the new look city car is part of Ford’s Individual programme of bespoke models and likely to be a competitor to the likes of Nissan’s funky-looking new Juke.

Only a teaser image of the rear of the Ka Metal and a picture of its interior have been released so far.

The newcomers will appear alongside a range of eco models including hybrid versions of the C-MAX, an electric Transit Connect van and a new Mondeo ECOnetic with CO2 emissions cut back to 114g/km.

The eco Mondeo uses a new version of Ford’s 1.6-litre diesel fitted with a stop/start system. The economical engine will eventually be used in the S-MAX and Galaxy MPV.
