We have £2000 cash and an R reg "scrapage" Toyota Picnic and the gear box about to go on our Picnic.
We have 3 teenage kids and a dog. I do mostly lots of short journeys all year.
We need a reliable, economical, family car maybe like Skoda Octavia or anything else, but would prefer interest only finance over shorter period of time.

Hi
With £2,000 there are lots of very clean used cars on the private market.
Go to eBay, Auto Trader, Gumtree and you will be amazed at what you see.
- Get a data check,
- Use our guides to spot common faults
- Ensure the car has nearly 1 year's M.O.T.
...and you can't go far wrong.
Make that list the buying criteria rather than thinking in terms or makes and models and you will end up with a safe, reliable car.
Even if it only lasts a couple of years, it will still all work out a lot cheaper than getting finance and buying something much newer.
Leave the nearly new cars for a bit later in life when you are not under such financial pressure.
Good luck
Matt
