IT was never part of Mercedes make-up to keep a low profile, but that’s just what it has done with the latest C-Class.
Svelte and sophisticated, the new C-Class Coupe has a lower profile than the saloon giving a much sleeker more sporting stance.
Top of the tree is the C350 BlueEFFICIENCY – a V6 with 305bhp driving the rear wheels through a seven-speed automatic gearbox.
BlueEFFICIENCY brings start/stop and battery charging under braking along with other power saving measures and these give a low, low emissions figure of just 164 grammes per kilometre and over 40 miles per gallon.
Mercedes claims a more sporting drive giving good grip and road-holding, but alongside the marque’s high level of ride comfort.
Expect the usual Mercedes low levels of tyre, road and wind noise and safety is top of course, with ten driving aids standard or on the extras list, including attention assist, active bonnet, lane keeping assist, active blind spot assist and speed limit assist.
Interior
Inside, it is much the same as the saloon, with the same 3D graphics for the instruments and the familiar layout.
It's not particularly practical and is probably best described as a two plus two because the rear seats are really only suitable for small kids if the front seats are in a normal position.
