SLEEK, low slung and stylish are three words to aptly describe Mazda’s new TAKERI concept that’s set to make it world debut at next month’s Tokyo Motor Show.

This is the car that will form the basis of the next generation mid-size Mazda6 model and has been designed using the Japanese company’s new design language called KODO, meaning soul of motion.

The concept also features SKYACTIV technology, including Mazda’s first regenerative braking system, which converts energy to electricity during deceleration and uses it to power the vehicle’s electrical equipment.

And combined with the new SKYACTIV-D diesel engine, Mazda i-stop and a new lightweight structure, it enables the Takeri to combine improved fuel economy with stronger performance.

Also making its Japanese debut will be the new Mazda CX-5 crossover, equipped with the full SKYACTIV package, while other fresh technologies and a full line-up of production models will also be on show.

The CX-5 is the first production vehicle to feature the KODO design language paired with SKYACTIV engines, transmission, bodyshell and chassis.

Featuring a light weight, aerodynamic form, frugal diesel and petrol engines, plus Mazda i-stop and fuel-saving transmissions; the five-door CX-5 is scheduled to go on sale in the UK next year.
