TOYOTA is lifting the wraps from three concept cars at the upcoming Tokyo Motor Show – including a take on its electric vehicle scheduled for launch next year.
That’s the the FT-EV III, which stands for Future Toyota – Electric Vehicle III, and is a four-seater model based on the Toyota iQ city car and suitable for short-distance trips.
Equipped with a lithium-ion battery, the FT-EV III achieves an estimated cruising range of 65 miles on a fully charged battery.
Looking further ahead, there’s the FCV-R, or Fuel Cell Vehicle – Reality & Revolution concept, which is a practical, family sized vehicle fuelled by hydrogen.
It represents the next step towards the commercial launch of a Toyota fuel cell vehicle by 2015.
With the fuel-cell unit located beneath the specially designed bodyshell, the vehicle can accommodate up to four passengers and boasts impressive luggage space.
The fuel cell stack, with high-pressure hydrogen tank, has been improved to provide a cruising distance of around 430 miles.
Toyota’s third concept for Tokyo is the Fun-Vii heralding the company’s vision of a future where people, cars and society are linked.
