Question

I have a 2001 Golf GTI 2.0lt and have noticed that there is condensation/ water on the inside of my cars oil filler cap. But there is no off white gunge, the engine is not over heating, there is no white smoke bellowing out of the exhaust and no loss of power, so I doubt the head gasket has gone. My car was serviced 6 months ago and I have only done 1500 miles since the service. I have been told by a friend that I just need to get an engine flush and an oil change. Is this a serious problem with the GTI2.0lt? Can you recommend a good replacement for similar money if so?

Answer

Hello,

This is a known and common symptom on Golfs. Well, I say symptom, but there is nothing wrong. It’s a symptom of not much. There is no need to change this car, which is good because not much compares for the money.
