Hi
I would appreciate some advice on buying a first car for my 17 year old 6'2" son to learn to drive in.
Ideally a second hand car, not more than two years old, in a reasonable insurance bracket.
Many thanks
Hi
The important thing for tall drivers is to have a highly adjustable sterring rack and seat. The lower you can get the seat, whether through tilting it back or just lowering it, the better. This allows you to stretch legs our in front of you, rather than have your knees around the wheel. Which is why sports cars are great...
But if you do that you need to be able to get the sterring wheel close enough too.
For cheap insurance you want cars in groups 1-3, which means: Ford Fiesta, Vauxhall Corsa, Citroen C2, Renault Clio, Nissan Notes.
Your son may prefer something more Ford Focus sized, but the insurance will go up.
Of those cars, the Corsa has the biggest seats and will probably feel most comfortable, or perhaps the Nissan.
