Alfa Romeo GT 1.9 JTDm - Alfa Romeo GT Car Review

IF you are going to produce a model that looks like a sports car then it has to perform - and the Alfa Romeo GT does just that.

With its 1.9 Multijet turbo diesel engine, it simply oozes power both in and around town and on the open road as it cruises through the six-speed gearbox.

But this coupe is not just about performance, it's quite a fashion statement too, with clean-cut sleek lines, wrap-around headlights, and a tapered rear end with huge exhaust that really impressed the kids in my neighbourhood!

Although it has no rear doors, it does have an opening tailgate and rear seats that fold to boost the luggage capacity to ample levels.

The GT has been branded as the coupe that offers maximum driving pleasure and, after a week behind the wheel, I'd say the guys at Alfa have got it just right.

Inside, the steering wheel and gear lever are given a sporty feel and all controls and dials are set on a light-coloured background, again adding to its race-car design.

Specifications include dual zone climate control, a CD player, rear parking sensor and navigational systems to name but a few.

And safety has also been catered for with anti-lock brakes, electronic brake-force distribution, xenon headlights, vehicle dynamic control and suspension that would sit proudly in any racing car.

And with numerous colour schemes to choose from, you can fully personalise your model too.

My only real criticism - and it's a small one - is that the doors are so highly sprung that they can bounce back and clobber you.

With stylish Italian looks, performance and elegance too, it's easy to see why Alfa Romeo has its own fan club with a huge following.
