Expensive car for £5,000 - Alfa Romeo GTV Car Review

Review

Motorcyclists will tell you that the great thing about motorised-BMXs is that you can buy some of the very best motorbikes on the market so cheaply. Especially on the used market where depreciation is also generally very small.

All of that is true, but the same thing can be achieved with a car too. Here are three fine examples where the used car price is way of out line with the value offered by the car.

Alfa Romeo GTV

Great styling performance and value. Dare to be different and get coupe which is significantly cheaper than an Audi TT. Regard it as a budget buy and you won't be disappointed.
Most economical: 2.0 34mpg
Best used buy: 2.0 engine; any spec

Used Car Expert price magazine: A clean, 2002 Alfa Romeo GTV 16v TS 2.0 with average mileage of 57,150 should be £4,277 – £5,032.

BMW Z3

Easy to drive and live with but not that exciting. Badge has kept prices higher than they should be and arrival of the Z4 has finally meant that this is becoming a better value buy.
Most economical: 1.8 36.2 mpg
Best used buy: 2.0 has decent performance and low asking prices.

Used Car Expert price magazine: A 2001 BMW Z3 2.0 with average mileage of 70,000 should be £4,177-£4,915.

Mercedes CLK

Large comfortable and stylish coupe. Pre 2002 model is becoming more affordable, although the cabriolet remains pricey.
Most economical: 200K 32.8 mpg
Best used buy: 230K
UsedCarExpert.com fault checks: 7
Used Car Expert price magazine: A 2000 Mercedes CLK 230K Sport with average mileage of 93,889 should be £5223-£5,379.
