Question

Looking to buy an original DB7 i-6. Where do I find the VIN number on a DB7? Will it be etched into the chassis somewhere as well as on a plate and if so where and what should it look like?

Same question for the engine number? I'd like to check this when looking at 2nd hand cars, as someone could always just get a plate made up and stuck on the car, but presumably it'd be a little more difficult to scratch a VIN into the chassis itself or an engine no. onto the engine.

Thanks in advance.

PS I have already looked at your very helpful guide on this, which mentioned VIN no's, but I don't think answered this particualr question. Simon.

Answer

Hi

The VIN plate is on the dashboard under the windscreen on the passenger side. My experience of trying to make out engine number is that its very hard work. Plus, if someone wants to fake a car's identiy, they will fake the entire identity. Especially on a premium car.

So I wouldn't worry so much about scrabbling around looking for the engine number, instead make sure you buy a datacheck - our one will give you the option to check the VIN too.

Then also call the former owners and dealers listed in the log book and service book. That kind of investigation is cleaner and will help you check the car's history is genuine.

Matt
