TURNING on the style will be Audi's statement as the German car maker celebrates its centenary.
A sleek version of the A5 will be on sale in weeks.
The A5 Sportback is basically a four door coupe with a hatchback and joins the current A5 Coupe and Cabriolet models.
Priced from £25,440 for a two-litre petrol version to £36,220 for a three-litre diesel the Sportback positions the A5 range as one for the discerning buyer.
The A5 shares the same platform with Audi's A4 models which remain more traditional as saloon and estate cars.
Later in the year a high performance S5 Cabriolet is going on sale powered by a new supercharged V6 engine and priced from £42,245. This car will replace the previous S4 rag top which used a V8 engine.
The S5 has a 0 to 60mph acceleration time of 5.6 seconds a top speed limited to 155mph while fuel economy is a claimed average of 29.1mpg with CO2 emissions of 224g/km.
Performance cars have been a feature of the models Audi has rolled out to mark its 100th anniversary this year.
The RS version of the TT roadster and coupe is priced from £42,985 and comes with blistering ability. Top speed is a claimed 174mph with a 0 to 60 acceleration time of 4.6 seconds - almost as quick as Audi's V10 R8 flagship which costs a cool £99,580.
Despite the recession Audi has performed well as a company and now commands more than five per cent of the UK new car market.
In the past ten years it has increased its range from 15 to 31 models and has already sold more than 45,000 cars this year. By 2015 it plans to extend the line up to 40 models.
Other newcomers this year are the Q5 4x4 which is priced from £27,115 which slots into the range below the huge Q7 which is available from £38,660.
A heavy duty version of the A4 - the allroad - has also made its debut in the past few months and that offers the practicality of an estate with a limited off-road capability. It is priced from £30,750.
At the lower end of the line up the A3 hatchback remains a popular seller costing £16,880 for a 1.4-litre petrol model.
Stop/start technology has been introduced on the A4 and A5 cars to improve their fuel economy and reduce emissions.
In the A4 the eco-friendly version uses the same two-litre diesel engine as the larger A6 TDIe with a power output of 134bhp but can return an average of 60mpg and a CO2 rating of just 120g/km.
Performance from the A4 TDIe remains brisk with a top speed of 143mph and acceleration to 60mph in 9.5 seconds.
Priced from £23,340 it has 13 per cent company car tax rating, which for a 40 per cent tax payer amounts to an annual liability of £1,210.
Private buyers will pay £35 a year in road duty.
