Hello,
I am buying my first diesel car soon and I’d like to know how to look after the turbo. I know not to thrash it from cold and also to let it idle for a couple of minutes before switching off to allow the oil to drain. Is there anything else I should know?
Many thanks,
Alan
Answer
Hello Alan
In truth there is very little you need to know. Modern diesels are designed to be fine from start up and don’t really need to be left to idle before switching the ignition off. It certainly won’t hurt if you have the time to do so, but it’s far from necessary. Manufacturers these days design in every likely treatment their engines may suffer so don’t worry about it unduly.
Best,
Tom
