Here's an example fault on the AUDI A5 (2007 - Present)
What to look for:
Check that the engine management light on the dashboard lights up when the engine is started and goes out when the engine is running. Test drive the vehicle and check for excessive smoke from the exhaust and the smell of the engine entering the cabin.
What it means:
These faults could indicate issues with the EGR (Exhaust Gas Re-Circulation) valves which allow exhaust gasses back into the engine to regulate engine temperature. If these fail (usually the get stuck open) then the engine can run hot and very rough.
What to do
If the car is under warranty (3 years/60,000 miles) then Audi may repair the fault for free. Otherwise try to negotiate a discount of £320 off of the price of the vehicle.
