THE Audi TT has been around long enough now for prices to be coming down to around £4,000 for 2002 cars – quite a saving over the original £29,000.
It has been an aspirational car for many people, with bombproof build quality which betters that of Mercedes.
The TT was first available with either 180 or 225bhp versions of the same turbo 1.8 seen throughout the VW group marques.
But the Mark II I deal with here has a 197bhp 2.0-litre or a later 250bhp 3.2-litre V6.
The Coupe and Roadster rag top are both two seaters and much sleeker looking that the Mark I. Some have quattro four-wheel-drive but all the cheaper 2.0-litre models are front wheel drive.
While the original TT had rather inert steering and was not very involving to drive, the Mark II is brilliant all round and as good to drive as the BMW 3-Series.
It hugs the road brilliantly and acceleration is right there whenever needed.
The ride can be quite lumpy because of sports suspension and prices stay up because of high demand.
Interior
There is some wind noise and also some from the big tyres but it is never too intrusive. The very comfortable, hip-hugging seats hold perfectly and the controls are all grouped for the driver.
The Coupe is a lot quieter than the soft-top and both have plenty of standard equipment.
