Looking for a speculative purchase on either a 1.8TT (240bhp) or an Elise 111R with the Toyota 6 speed box to sell on next year. What, in your considered opinion would be the best buy?

Risky business this; lots to weigh up. The selection suggests you have already done your homework – these are both the desirable variants of desirable sports cars.
Who knows what the next 12 months holds? But on the basis that there are far fewer Elises on the market, I would go with that. Less supply means firmer prices.
Plus the styling is not going to date as quickly (there are new shape TTs entering the used market all the time making the old shape look... old).
Even in a recession enthusiasts with money will buy Lotuses, but a 240 bhp TTs might not shift so easily when you can buy one of the other more thrifty variants that look just as good.
