BMW 125i M Sport Coupe - BMW 1-Series Car Review

Review

WITH its mighty three-litre engine, BMW's baby hatch certainly packs a grown-up punch.

The three-door coupe boasts incredible power and an altogether exhilarating ride with blistering acceleration and superb road-holding capabilities.

And the M Sport specification on the model supplied for the test drive adds even more oomph, although be warned - the ride and acceleration can be so smooth, it's certainly worth keeping a watchful eye on the speedometer.

Apart from the awesome drive both in and around town and on the open road, the 1-Series boasts a whole host of top-notch features, as one might expect from a manufacturer renowned for its touches of class and luxury.

Specification includes an automatic air con system complete with micro filter, rain sensors, automatic headlight controls, central locking, courtesy lighting, an interior auto-dimming rearview mirror and on-board computer.

And the safety package is impressive too with a top quality alarm and engine immobiliser, parking sensors, side impact protection, a passenger seat occupancy sensor, six airbags, run-flat tyres and a tyre puncture warning system, plus dynamic stability control, brake force distribution and a whole lot more.

But features and safety aside, this 1-Series really is all about the ride and handling.

It's true, the leather seats and attractive trim levels all add to the experience, but it's the gritty and powerful performance that, at times, can leave you speechless.

Some vehicles would be flat out in fourth gear, but the 1-Series offers a fifth and sixth and the power just keeps on coming.

Despite its compact appearance, the 1-Series is deceptively roomy inside and there is also plenty of luggage space along with numerous storage compartments throughout.

It would be fair to say the 1-Series is no car for the 'just-passed-my-test' inexperienced driver, while very few will be spotted on the dreaded school run, but anyone who is looking for performance, safety and the thrill of a great drive need look no further.
