IT’S a far cry from the old days of building typewriters, but Alpina has just launched a stunning new performance model in the UK.
Alpina, a car manufacturer in its own right since 1983, is the only company to work on engine and chassis development with BMW's official approval.
And now, following its world debut at the Geneva Motor Show, the new Alpina B3 S Bi-Turbo is about to arrive here.
Based on the BMW 3 Series, the car reflects the Alpina ethos of high performance combined with ‘green’ awareness and the 3.0-litre straight six now yields 400hp at 6000 rpm and massive torque of 540 Nm at 4500 rpm.
In coupe form this delivers 0-62 in 4.7 seconds and 186 mph, yet economy is improved to an average 29.1mpg and CO2emissions are down to 224g/km.
The B3S is kitted out with a redesigned front spoiler and a new rear diffuser which encloses the tailpipes, reducing lift and ensuring optimum engine cooling. The Alpina’s alloy wheels get the new design treatment seen on the latest B7 model.
With switchable six-speed automatic transmission in saloon, touring, coupe and convertible forms, the B3 S will be available in July. Prices will be announced later.
