BMW’s M series cars are legendary, and now there is a new one on the horizon.
The latest car to feature the letter M comes with stunning performance from a race-bred powertrain, a controllable, agile and exploitable chassis and an attractive, sporty design to ensure it takes a deserved place among these icons.
The new BMW 1 Series M Coupé heralds the introduction of a high performance sports car into a compact design that extends the BMW M portfolio and paves the way for a wider audience to appreciate M car ownership.
It’s sporty nature is obvious from the dramatic exterior, which features widened wheel arches, exclusive 19-inch Y-spoke M alloy wheels, and dual chrome tailpipes.
The car boasts a top speed of 155mph and a 0-62mph acceleration time of 4.9 seconds.
The 1 Series M Coupé goes on sale in May priced around £40,000 on-the-road, with the first customer deliveries expected in May.
Staying with the 1 Series, the coupe and convertible – due on sale at the end of March – will feature a system to reduce drag around the front wheel arches.
The Aero Curtain works by channelling air into two ducts in the front apron which then flows out of a narrow opening at high speed in the wheel arch. The jet of air then covers the side of the front wheels like a curtain reducing turbulence.
The entry level diesel engine 118d Coupe will cost from £21,960 while convertible models will be priced from £24,245 when the new range goes on sale on March 26.
For anyone stepping up to the 3-Series the range starts from £22,495 for the 2.0-litre 318i ES saloon while the 5-Series range will set you back from around £31,600.
BMW fans looking for off-road capability are spoiled for choice, with the X1, X3, X5 and X6 all offering varying amounts of space and different features. These four-wheel-drive models range from just over £24,000 right up to more than £58,000 for the X5 M Sport.
