Hi Matthew,
I am the proud owner of a BMW ZM coupe, its the coupe version of the Z3. Many people consider it an ugly duckling but it turns lots of heads and is great fun to drive. The car is in fantastic condition, and has 75k on the clock. I am considering mothballing the car (storing it in the garage and using it only on the odd occasion). Due to the limited production and its unusual looks I think the car is a future classic and worth keeping. Do you think this is worthwhile or should i sell it and move on?

Answer
Wilf,
Like many BMWs of our generation, the design has grown on people. I cannot argue with your logic: a limited production, fast, controversial BMW should be worth something in the future.
But in 1991, BMW brought out another controversial, fast and edgy sport scar. The 840 and 850 were priced at £52,000 - £62,000 when new. Today, a BMW 840 with 70,000 miles on the clock will be yours for just £6,000.
Betting on BMW future values is not something I would recommend. Especially as they produce more and more cars each year. How much longer will BMW be a premium brand? They sell more 3-Series than Ford sell Mondeos.
