CHEVROLET is going back to the future with a new 1970s-style Camaro roadster.

The cabriolet is expected to go on sale at the end of next year or early in 2009 and will sell alongside a new coupe which was the star of the General Motors stand at last year's Detroit Motor Show.

At this year's event it is being overshadowed by the convertible painted orange and sporting Starsky and Hutch-style stripes.

GM says that both the coupe and roadster will go into production and each will use V8 power with manual transmission.
