A HATCHBACK version of Chevrolet’s Cruze medium-sized family car will be going on sale in July priced from £13,995.

The new model will be joining the existing saloons which last year shot to fame on the race track winning the British Touring Car championship.

It will be available with a choice of two petrol engines and a two-litre diesel which should be capable of averaging around 50 miles per gallon.

The entry level model will be a 1.6-litre petrol in LS trim which includes air conditioning, central locking and electronic stability controls as standard.

Diesels will be priced from £17,195 in mid-grade LT trim which includes the addition of cruise control, electric windows all round, a multi-function trip computer, parking distance sensors and 16-inch alloys.

Bluetooth connectivity, automatic headlamps and wipers and aluminium dashboard trim are featured on LTZ models which can be had either with a 1.8-litre petrol engine priced from £16,095 or £17,795 from the diesel which will also be available as an automatic costing £1,000 more.

The range topping LTZ fitted with an Executive Pack adds full leather upholstery and sat nav as standard and is available only as a diesel priced from £19,295.
