APART from a slight side-to-side rocking motion on some surfaces, the Citroen C5 has the best ride in its class - and even the one above.
Only one car comes close, the BMW 3-Series without sports suspension, but even it can't match the Citroen's amazing fluidity over even the most undulating and potholed surfaces.
However, its excellence doesn't stop there. It also hugs the road through corners like a sportscar, with very little roll and tremendous grip.
The steering is a little lifeless, but that is my only possible suspension or handling criticism, overall it is simply superb.
I drove the 2.0-litre petrol, but there is a raft of other engines to choose from including diesels with four different power levels.
The 2.0-litre petrol is willing and smooth, giving reasonably quick performance without ever lighting the blue touch paper.
The gearchange is smooth and slick, the clutch light and the dash and binnacle excellent.
Interior
The interior is vast with superb rear legroom - even behind my six foot frame - and a massive boot.
The speedo includes a digital mph readout and the instruments are among the best looking on the market but the front seats are on odd shape and very poor for short drivers.
