Question

Dear Sir/Madam:

I have a high temp indicator alarm even at cold start on my Citroen Xsara Picasso. Also, the fan is not running. What could be possible causes?

Thanks, Arvin

Answer

Check the fan itself first by giving it a separate supply and earth. (Mind your hands near the blades!)

Once you’ve established that it’s working, and the fuse is OK, check the coolant temperature sensor controlling the fan – this can be in the side of the radiator on some models.

Have a good look at the plugs in the wiring leading to the radiator sensor and the fan as well as the terminals can corrode leading to problems.
