FORD'S Fiesta has long been one of the biggest sellers in Britain and so there are huge numbers to choose from second-hand.
The last chunky square model that emulated the Mark II Focus is funky to look at and has more interior space than previous models.
But don't pay over the odds. All should still be in top condition with full service history so walk away if they haven't.
Engines start with a 73bhp 1.25 followed by the now very long in the tooth 1.3 with 67.
Then comes a very good 1.4 with 78, a 1.6 with 98 and the ST's 2.0-litre with 150.
The oil burners are 1.4 and 1.6-litres with either 67 or 88bhp but the 1.4's acceleration is painfully slow.
The ride in all but the ST is very good and the handling is safe and sure in all situations with excellent grip and road holding.
Best buy is the 1.4 petrol and five door models are worth about £350 more than three doors.
Interior
Rear leg and headroom are good but the boot is not really big enough for four people's luggage.
Many have aircon and these are the ones to go for because they will sell more easily when the time comes.
