Hi
On our nine year old Focus, when we turn on the ignition, the needles jump to the top of their range before settling to the correct reading. Why would they do this and what can i do to correct it? Also sometimes the door locks go through a frenzy of clicking, locking and unlocking. This is a bit worrying. What would you suggest?
Thank you very much for any comments you may have

Answer
Pre 2004 Focus had instrument cluster problems.
It’s usually caused by moisture on the circuit board and if you remove the instrument cluster and dry it all off round the multiplug now, you may avoid a big bill later on.
A Ford replacement is around £350. If it does pack up altogether, I would go for a secondhand unit, or try to get just the circuit board which is about £60.
