CLEAN and green is the game of the game for Ford with its first reveal of the new Focus ECOnetic, which goes on sale next year.
The company says this latest ECOnetic arrival, due to be shown for the first time at next week’s Amsterdam Motor Show, will establish a new industry benchmark for fuel efficiency in the popular compact class.
And the claim is a Combined cycle fuel figure of 80 miles per gallon and ultra-low CO2 emissions of less than 95g/km when certification is completed in the next few months.
It means this Focus variant - available in both five-door and estate body styles - will join a growing list of low emitting family hatchbacks, including the upcoming 85g/km Kia Rio, to boast super efficient figures.
Key to the car’s fuel economy is the use of the latest low-CO2 technologies in its engine, aerodynamics and driver information systems.
The Ford is powered by a new 105bhp version of the 1.6-litre Duratorq TFCi diesel unit which has been improved for better efficiency with a new injection system and turbocharger, enhanced charge cooling plus friction reduction measures.
It also benefits from a number of additional low-CO2 features specially developed for this model including a unique aerodynamic package with an active grille shutter, low rolling resistance tyres and a revised final drive ratio.
There’s also the full range of Ford ECOnetic technologies shared with other models in the new Focus line-up, like auto Stop/Start, regenerative charging, Eco mode and shift indicator prompt.
*The existing Ford Focus 1.6 TDCi, which went on sale last month, emits 109g/km of CO2 and returns a claimed 67 miles per gallon.
