FORD has added the sportiest model so far to its new Focus line-up – and it has been developed specifically for UK drivers.
The eyecatching Zetec S version combines sharp styling with the debut of a 1.6-litre 180PS EcoBoost petrol engine and costs from £18,745, the equivalent of a Focus Titanium.
Based on the existing Zetec model, the S adds a full sports styling kit including front and rear spoilers with lower sill extensions and 17-inch alloy wheels together with sports suspension, aluminium-style sports pedals, rear LED tail lamps and Power start button.
The Zetec S comes in a five-door body style with estate to follow in February, and is offered with a choice of four engines including the 1.6-litre 180PS EcoBoost turbocharged petrol unit.
All models using this engine, which has a top speed of 138mph and can scoot from 0-62mph in 7.9 seconds – or indeed the 1.6-litre 115PS TDCi diesel - will carry the ECOnetic technology badge.
That means they benefit from auto start-stop, Ford ECO mode, gear shift indicator, active grille shutter and smart regenerative charging.
A 1.6-litre 125PS Ti-VCT petrol unit along with the 2.0-litre 163PS TDCi diesel are also available and can be specified with either manual or PowerShift automatic transmission.
At £18,745 on the road the Focus Zetec S is priced at £1,250 above the equivalent Zetec derivative, obvious value given that the additional features would add more than £1,700 if bought separately.
Options include Ford’s Driver Assistance Pack, cruise control with active speed limiter and a Zetec S interior pack featuring Inferno Red partial leather, heated front seats, power driver seat, electric rear windows and global closing for £800.
Ford marketing director Anthony Ireson said: "Zetec S models have always been popular with UK customers and so we are delighted to welcome our new Focus Zetec S to the range.
“With sporty exterior body styling and impressive performance and economy, this latest addition is set to be another showroom hit."
