Top seller keeping Ford in Focus - Ford Focus Car Review

THE best selling car in Britain spearheads a sales assault that should see the blue oval badge keep a firm hold on its British sales crown.

Ford remains the country's favourite brand for the 28th successive year - outselling its nearest rival by more than 42,000 vehicles.

Though the changes to the new generation Focus aren't exactly radical, Ford is convinced its fanbase of satisfied owners will remain loyal to the marque.

While better interior space, slicker packaging and enhanced quality materials are hallmarks of the latest Focus, the most significant moves are under the skin where changes have been made to the suspension, handling and transmission.

And the engine choices are varied with 1.4, 1.6 and two-litre petrol options and 1.6 and 2.0 turbodiesels.

Another pair of strings to the Ford bow come in the shape of the new Fiesta ST and Zetec S. The ST - which stands for Sports Technologies - is a 150bhp flying machine and spiritual successor to the old XR2i.

It looks the part too with a cheese-grater style section in the front bumper and lower bonnet area, body colour side skirts and a discreet rear spoiler, chrome exhausts and 17-inch alloy wheels.

There are even optional 'go faster' stripes running the length of the car, which comes in five colours - white, a performance RS blue shade, Colorado red, silver and black.

Those preferring something warm rather than scorching can opt for the Zetec S, which uses 1.6-litre petrol and the new 1.6 Duratorq TDCi diesel engines.

The petrol model generates 100bhp for a 0-60mph time of 9.9 seconds and 115mph top speed while the oil-burner takes 11.2 seconds to reach 60mph, with a top speed of 112mph and 62mpg combined economy.

The latter is the first performance diesel for Ford's small car line-up and will also be available in the Fusion. In fact it was jointly developed by Ford and the PSA group specifically for these cars.

Shoring up the Ford range are the popular Ka, Fusion and family-size Mondeo models and multi-purpose vehicles in the shape of Focus C-MAX and Galaxy people carrier.
