Hi
I've seen a 2006 diesel Mondeo estate for sale. Mileage is 138,000, (motorway miles it says), with new MOT and is priced at £3595. Car has FSH.
This is a lot of miles for a car this age but I've been led to believe that it may be okay as it is a diesel.
What is your opinion?
Should I part with my cash or avoid it like the plague?
Answer
Right.... in short, I wouldn't buy it.
That's a fairly adjusted price for a car with that mileage - about half it's normal value.
But, that misses the point. Diesels, as they get older - because the engine is under such pressure - start to become unreliable and are more expensive to service.
There are better deals on the market basically - anything over 100,000 miles is a 'banger' and you should be able to buy with spare change as an 'at risk' purchase.
