Jaguar XJR 4.2 V8 - Jaguar Car Review

SHOULD NASA ever need any fine tuning with its space programme, then maybe they should look to Jaguar for some top tips.

For last week I had an XJR 4.2 V8 Jag to drive and after almost 800 miles behind the wheel I concluded one thing - this vehicle would sail through Simon Cowell's stringent X Factor tests.

It oozes class, style, technology and with its supercharged engine leaves literally everything in its wake - even your licence if you're not careful.

Costing more than £60,000, the range-topping XJR boasts a whole host of top notch features from rain sensing windscreen wipers, parking assist and multi-adjustable seats with memory settings for three positions to a full-blown entertainment package for rear passengers including a DVD player.

There is a comprehensive touch screen sat nav system, although to be honest with this model the longer the time spent driving, the better.

Every effort has been made to ensure driver comfort with heated seats, adjustable steering wheel and even adjustable pedals - in fact there could be no excuse whatsoever to complain about the ride.

Safety is a top priority with Computer Active Technology Suspension, Dynamic Stability Control with added traction, Anti-lock Braking System, Emergency Brake Assist and numerous airbags, along with a list of other features.

But while they all add to your peace of mind, the real joy of the XJR is its drive, which has optional sports settings too.

Admittedly, it's a thirsty beast and the 23mpg stat from Jaguar is a tad on the generous side, but if you can splash out £62,000 on a car in the first place the rising price of unleaded is unlikely to cause unnecessary concern.

It really sums up Jaguar's intentions when rear passengers have what is described as a "cigar lighter" - nothing but the best, eh!
