What to look for:

Be aware that the diesel XF models are fitted with a diesel particulate filter (DPF). This filter is there to remove harmful emissions from the car’s exhaust. If you only do short journeys the filter does not reach operating temperature and cannot burn off the particulates clogged within it.

What it means:

If the car is only used in town then you may require a higher than usual number of oil services to be carried out as the DPF is cleaned out via the engine oil. You may need up to three a year at a cost of £150.00 a time.

What to do

If you live in an urban area or only do short journeys then you may want to consider petrol XF. The fuel bill will be greater but maintenance is likely to be substantially cheaper.
