THE intensity of competition in the overcrowded four by four market is being felt by Chrysler, whose Jeep Cherokee models are effectively slashed in price by more than £2,000 this month.
There is a straightforward reduction of £1,000 across the entire Cherokee range, plus a free leather interior worth an additional £1,200 on the Cherokee Limited model.
It means that Cherokee prices now start at £16,995 for the 2.4-litre Sport, to include all taxes and three years' European roadside assistance.
In addition to that entry model there is the 3.7 V6 Limited petrol model and 2.5 and 2.8 diesel Sports, plus the 2.8 CRD Limited.
Standard kit on all versions includes multi-stage front airbags, headlamp levelling, air conditioning, anti-lock brakes, electric front windows and a single CD player.
Among the Cherokee's many rivals for similar money are the Toyota RAV4, Land Rover Freelander, Hyundai Santa Fe, Mazda Tribute, Suzuki Grand Vitara and the Mitsubishi Outlander.
