FIVE into three will go – and Kia’s designers have proved it with the first ever three door version of the company’s Rio hatchback.

The new three-door model has a striking, coupé-like side profile and offers a £600 saving, compared with equivalent five door models which have been available since last September.

It comes with a choice of four engines – 1.25 and 1.4 litre petrol and 1.1 and 1.4 litre diesels with the latter featuring the Korean company’s EcoDynamics technologies, such as Intelligent Stop & Go, as standard.

Trim grades replicate those of the five door version, with standard features on the entry levels model including daytime running lights, front electric windows, height-adjustable driver’s seat, two-way steering column adjustment on the petrol model (height-adjustable only on the entry level diesel), a tachometer and trip computer, split folding rear seats and an MP3-compatible RDS radio and CD player with USB and AUX ports. Bluetooth is also standard on the petrol entry model, and on all versions with other trim grades.

Safety features fitted across the range include electronic stability control (ESC), electronic brake-force distribution (EBD), emergency brake assist (EBA) and  emergency stop signalling (ESS). Hill-start Assist Control (HAC) is also fitted to all models.

Prices start at £9,995 and rise to £14,295 which includes Kia’s much vaunted seven years or 100,000 miles warranty. Buyers can also opt for transferable service packages covering the first three or five services, priced at £259 and £499 respectively.
