What are the pitfalls in buying a 10 year old Range Rover?

It would be for occasional use so fuel economy does not matter.

What are the faults to look out for?

Where do I start? I considered buying one recently - after I decided an old Jag was out of reach - and a specialist in East London said, "you're glutton for punishment - they're worse than jags"
