Here's an example fault on the MERCEDES CLC (2008-)
What to look for:
Test drive the vehicle – if it suffers from intermittent power and poor acceleration then this can be caused by a faulty air mass sensor. Check the service history and mileage to determine if the air mass sensor has been replaced as per the service schedule.
What it means:
The air mass sensor is integral to the smooth, efficient running of the engine and should be replaced at 50,000 miles.
What to do
If you find the air mass sensor needs replacing, or that the car has passed the 50,000 mile mark without it being done, then try to negotiate a discount of £250.00 off of the price of the vehicle.
