Hi
I am currently looking to get a new 'family car'. I have had a Honda Accord Type-R for the last 3 years (loved every minute of it) but now with a 2 year old daughter and another on the way feel I should get a sensible spacious car (also the taunts of boy racer are now beginning to annoy!).
Have seen some well priced ML's 270 / 320 for between £6,500 and £10,000. Is this a stupid buy bearing in mind the Tax situation? I only seem to do about 6000 miles a year.
Any advice greatly recieved.
Many thanks, DM
Answer
Buying a really good car is never a stupid idea.
Buying a new one next year would sting you for £750-£950 tax depending on which engine you buy, but buying used means you will pay £415 - £455 (first year tax is going to be higher from then on)
See the tax table for more information, you can also find out more about the engine options in the facts & stats section before checking on price, and of course downloading a buyers guide.
If it were me, I would aim for a 3.2 petrol engine from around 2003 with about 37,000 miles on the clock.
