DEMAND for sports cars is soaring to an all-time high, and leading the pack is the UK's own MG TF.
Now the best selling rag-top model of all, MG is increasing production to keep pace with rising demand.
Sales reached record levels in March, so production is set to be increased by 130 to 430 cars a week, which is more than 20,000 a year.
The success of the MG TF is a reminder of the UK's sports car glory days of almost half a century ago, when the impressive line up included iconic models such as the MG Midget, Austin Healey Sprite, Triumph TRs, MGB, Lotus Elan, Jaguar E-Type and several more, including models from smaller producers such as Morgan, TVR and Caterham.
Several of the specialist sports car companies continue, but now the only model from the former British Leyland empire is the TF, which continues to enjoy critical acclaim despite formidable opposition from overseas rivals.
Recent class-leading scores in the Euro NCAP safety tests and being judged the 'World's Most Beautiful Cabriolet' in style-conscious Milan have helped.
