Dear Sir/Madam,
I am currently looking at purchasing my first car in the UK, and I'm looking for a 1.4 car and am prepared to spend up to around 3300. I have found that there are some MG ZR's that are around this price, but I have read some reports saying that they are not built well and this has turned me away a bit.
My first choice is a Ford Fiesta, but I do like the look of the MG. So I was wondering is this car a good first purchase or should I be looking towards something rather like a ford or peugoet?
Kind regards,
Skye van Heyzen
Answer
Dear Skye,
MGs can be a bit fragile. The aluminimum engine can easily overheat, leading to head gasket failure and cambelts can break.
The Fiesta is cheap to service, and a very easy car to live with.
But if you want something a bit bigger and better looking, what about a 2003 Peugeot 206? THe 1.4 petrol engine will have about 49,000 miles on the clock. Whereas a 1.4 MG ZR can be more like 52,000.
Or a 2005 Hyundai Accent, which will still have a year's manufacturer warranty left! Plus, the 1.3's average mileage will be around 25,000 miles.
Good luck.
