Question

Hi, I am an 20 year old guy and have been driving for two years, my car (fiat stilo 3dr sport) has been written off and am now looking for a new car to compare...

I have had a Rover 25 in the past and was thinking of the MG ZR, I have €6000 to spend but am lost as to what car is reliable and so forth, I was also offered a Land Rover Discovery 2000 with 90k for €5000...

Answer

If you buy provately, you should be able to get a 2003 or 2004 MG ZR for that budget, with 35 - 42,000 miles. Our buyers guide tells you how to check the timing belt and head gasket whoch are the two key reliability issues. If they are OK it will provide a lot of fun for the money.

The Discovery will be a bit expensive to run at this stage. Otherwise a Vauxhall Astra, Ford Focus or Golf are the sensible choices.
