MITSUBISHI has revealed its new Galant Fortis model that will form the basis of the next generation Lancer for the UK next spring.
The Galant Fortis version will be for the Japanese market only where there will also be the Lancer Evolution X, which will be known simply as the Lancer Evolution in the UK when it goes on sale here next March.
The Evo models will use a new turbocharged two-litre petrol engine sending power to all four wheels via a new six-speed manual transmission system.
Mitsubishi says that the styling of the standard Lancer saloon and hatchback models will be more dynamic and sporty for the European market, where they will be seen for the first time at the Frankfurt Motor Show this September.
It is anticipated that the first hatchbacks will be with dealers by the beginning of March next year but the saloons are not expected to arrive until September 2008.
