What to look for:
As you let the clutch out to pull away, notice is the clutch pedal travels far before the car starts to move. Also, during the test drive, put the car in a high gear at a low speed and press the accelerator hard. Notice if the revs surge up before the car starts to move more quickly.
What it means:
If the clutch travels a long way before the car moves, or the revs surge when accelerating the clutch is worn. These clutches can wear very quickly (partly because of how such a car tends to be driven!)
What to do
Obtain quotes for a new clutch as prices vary, but can reach £800, with a two week wait for parts.
