Hi I'm looking to buy a 57 reg Nissan Note which comes with a manufacturer's warranty.
The garage I'm buying the car from are trying to sell me a service plan alongside the car by telling me that if I take the car to my local mechanic the warranty will be void.
Obviously I want to keep the protection of the warranty but I don't know if the plan at £250 is value for money, also the garage which would be carrying out the servicing is a Fiat garage and has a poor reputation.
There is not a Nissan dealership nearby. Do you recommend taking out a service plan?
Answer
Hi
Provided your Nissan is serviced to Nissan's requirements (and any garage can look this up for you) and using parts of an equivalent quality to Nissan-branded components then your warranty will be valid no matter where you service it.
Nissan sell service plans, but only through their own dealers. So the plan you are being offered has no advantage over going to any garage in your area.
This Fiat garage is misleading you and it sounds like you should avoid them.
If anything it sounds like using them is more likely to invlaidate your warranty; if they lie about this they will lie about the parts they have used and the service work they have - or have not - done.
Matt
