THE awesome Nissan GT-R has been named as the World Performance Car of The Year beating the Porsche 911 and the Chevrolet Corvette ZR1.

Fifty-nine independent jurors voted the Japanese supercar top dog against other greats such as Aston Martin, Lamborghini and Mercedes.

It beat an entry of no less that 23 of the very best fast cars from all over the world with its huge pace and agility.

The World Car of the Year's panel said the latest GT-R R-35 was even markedly better than previous GT-Rs.

It is powered by a 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 which delivers an amazing 485bhp and an earth moving amount of torque.

This combines with all wheel drive to give astonishing performance by any and every standard along with the most superb chassis.

The judges were so impressed with the Nissan's abilities that they said for the price, it may be the world's best enthusiast's car.

Since the order books opened in April last year, Nissan has taken 1,250 deposits for the GT-R. The first UK buyers took delivery of their cars last month.

Of the award, Nissan UK managing director Paul Willcox said: 'We believe the GT-R delivers a unique blend of outstanding performance, advanced technology and everyday practicality, and the judges recognised those qualities.'
