My car loses power in 4th and 5th gear. It will hardly accelerate. Can you help me please?
Any loss of power will be most noticeable in the higher gears. It sounds like a constant misfire, which could be an ignition problem, a duff injector or a mechanical problem such as a worn valve.
If you don’t have a warning light on we can probably rule out the injectors, so my first check would be spark plugs. Take them out and clean them – or better still, fit a new set. If the ignition checks out OK, get an engine compression check done as a start point.
