Nissan Patrol 3.0 D S - Nissan Patrol Car Review

Review

OUT of my way - I'm coming through! Not a great attitude for any driver I hear you say, but after a week behind the wheel of a Nissan Patrol you feel totally invincible.

With its rugged looks and high seating position - side steps provided - the Patrol has everything you could possibly want in a 4x4 and for a vehicle with such bulging lines it even handles quite well.

Admittedly, a tad on the sluggish side and very thirsty at times, the Patrol is certainly not the sort of vehicle to be used just to take the kids to school.

This is a model that loves the outdoor life and has all the equipment to deal with the roughest of terrains.

It has massive ground clearance and a number of top-of-the-range features to enhance stability, safety and performance.

Then back on the open road, the Patrol operates in two-wheel drive, but at the first sign of difficult or demanding conditions high level four-wheel drive can be selected while on the move.

Yet it's not all about aggressive looks and performance - there are plenty of softer touches too.

The five-seater model supplied for the test drive - the S style - boasted air conditioning, heated door mirrors, a CD radio, numerous storage compartments and a map lamp to name but a few features.

And apart from a commanding driving position which offers excellent visibility the Patrol includes Anti-lock Braking System and numerous airbags as standard.

All in all, the Patrol is an extremely comfortable ride for such a monster of a vehicle - and while it will not leave many cars standing at the traffic lights it will leave them for dead in poor weather or harsher conditions making it a true all-rounder.
